Brutality in Eastleigh

BY:BASHIR MOHAMED MOHAMUD.
What the hell is the meaning of Terrorist? When the Police justify a security crackdown in Eastleigh. We don’t sleep at night the ‪Police ‪,‎AP and ‪‎GSU are our nightmares. The police breaking down doors in subject of terrorist search raid, extort money, valuables and do arresting.
To them a Somali has no definition, ID has no value and every Somali is a suspect if not terrorist “Warya ni Warya” Being Somali apparently a crime in Kenya.
An attack in Eastleigh is police parties, “If you’re broke and you know it and you really want to make money, justify a security crackdown in Eastleigh” is the slogan of the Kenyan police.
I was born and raised in Kenya, my mother has never seen a country other than Kenya and my Grandfather was a soldier in Wajir  under British colonial administration in Kenya, I call myself a Somali Kenyan but the authorities always remind me that am not yet Kenyan.
I always dream of a Kenya where Somalis enjoy life and we could earn a living and contribute to life. Am always dreaming a dream that will hardly come true. I feel sad at the action I have taken.
As a loyal Somali-Kenyan whose citizenship is and will always be questioned ,I have no other option, I’m constantly half awake to respond immediately the threatening door knock of the police before they breakdown the door. Ready with identification and Money or risk a jail which apparently will cost you more. You do have to bribe for your freedom and Pay the price to complete your sweet sleep and skip a jail.
According to what is happening Somalis are not recognised citizens including citizenship by birth and by descent.
It’s the third night after Monday night attack in Eastleigh, killing six people and injuring 31 others. A heavy police presence a randomly carring out door-to-door searches of Somalis residential buildings.
More than 200 “suspects” were last night arrested , the arrests brings to more than 1,000, the number of those arrested since Monday .
What once senses is a deliberate obstruction and the manner in which people are being treated in this regard is very unpleasant.
They have never arraigned the “suspects” a suspect should  be released or charged within 24 hours and its already more than 72 hours.
The country’s security officials have warned there will be more arrests until those behind Monday’s attacks are found.
The police only targets Somalis, we always are a suspect ,most of the time the attacks happens in our neighbourhood and police are quick to punish us. Are these series of attack meant the Police to justify a security crackdown on Somalis? For both repercussion, the Explosions in Eastleigh and the Police crackdown, we Somalis are the losers. A benefits of both should be someone else.
